Community Engagement & Environmental Awareness Intern Job Description

 key responsibilities

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Assist in planning and organizing marine awareness roadshows and local events.

  • Facilitate interactive workshops, discussions, and presentations with diverse communities.

  • Build relationships with local organizations, schools, and community leaders to expand outreach efforts.

Marine Awareness Roadshow

  • Coordinate roadshow logistics, including materials, equipment, and travel arrangements.

  • Engage with audiences at roadshows to promote marine conservation initiatives.

  • Document roadshow events with photos, videos, and reports for future use.

  • Collect feedback from visitors to improve the program's effectiveness.

School Programs

  • Develop engaging lesson plans and activities tailored for students of various age groups.

  • Deliver interactive and educational sessions about marine conservation in schools.

  • Collect feedback from students and educators to improve the program's effectiveness.

  • Document school program events with photos, videos, and reports for future use.

Content Creation & Social Media

  • Create high-quality content (blogs, articles, videos, graphics) to share marine conservation stories.

  • Develop and schedule engaging posts for social media platforms.

  • Basic knowledge of marine ecosystems and conservation issues is desirable.

Project Support

  • Assist in other TIC marine conservation projects at Tengah Island and Besar Island, Mersing, Johor.

For this role, you will be placed at Mersing, Johor at our field house (TIC Hub), in a shared humble accommodation.

RM 500 monthly allowance will be provided.

 

Requirements

  • Willingness to live and work in remote or rural areas with basic living conditions

  • Able to participate in physically active tasks (e.g., setting up events, gardening, waste handling)

  • Comfortable with outdoor work, possibly under hot, humid, or rainy conditions

  • Physically fit enough for:

    • Lifting and transporting materials

    • Walking/standing for extended periods

    • Participating in community clean-ups or fieldwork

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated in fields such as:

    • Environmental Science

    • Marine Biology

    • Sustainability

    • Social Sciences

    • Communication / Media / Public Relations

    • Education

    • Community Development or a related field

  • Proficient in English and Malay (spoken and written)

  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Self-motivated, responsible, and able to work independently or in a small team

  • Open-minded and respectful of local cultures and customs
