Community Engagement & Environmental Awareness Intern Job Description

Community Engagement & Outreach
Assist in planning and organizing marine awareness roadshows and local events.
Facilitate interactive workshops, discussions, and presentations with diverse communities.
Build relationships with local organizations, schools, and community leaders to expand outreach efforts.
Marine Awareness Roadshow
Coordinate roadshow logistics, including materials, equipment, and travel arrangements.
Engage with audiences at roadshows to promote marine conservation initiatives.
Document roadshow events with photos, videos, and reports for future use.
Collect feedback from visitors to improve the program's effectiveness.
School Programs
Develop engaging lesson plans and activities tailored for students of various age groups.
Deliver interactive and educational sessions about marine conservation in schools.
Collect feedback from students and educators to improve the program's effectiveness.
Document school program events with photos, videos, and reports for future use.
Content Creation & Social Media
Create high-quality content (blogs, articles, videos, graphics) to share marine conservation stories.
Develop and schedule engaging posts for social media platforms.
Basic knowledge of marine ecosystems and conservation issues is desirable.
Project Support
Assist in other TIC marine conservation projects at Tengah Island and Besar Island, Mersing, Johor.
For this role, you will be placed at Mersing, Johor at our field house (TIC Hub), in a shared humble accommodation. RM 500 monthly allowance will be provided.
Besar Bersih Project Intern Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Composting & Waste Management | Assist with the RIDAN food composting system, help sort waste, and promote organic waste management in the community.
Recycling & Upcycling | Support the recycling centre by managing each waste properly, activating the upcycling project at Rumah Eko, and engaging with local stakeholders in sustainable waste practices. Having experience in upcycling projects such as the precious plastic machine and repurposing used materials would be a bonus.
Food Forest Garden | To be able to understand and maintain the food forest garden, assist in organizing agroforestry concept workshops, and encourage community involvement.
Awareness Programs | Assist with sustainable/volunteering programs organized by project coordinator with local community and stakeholders on sustainable practices and foster partnerships for environmental protection.
Community Liaison | Gather feedback from the community and stakeholders to improve the project and identify areas for growth.
Marketing & Communications | Assist in creating promotional content (social media, newsletters, flyers) and tangible exhibition materials to raise awareness of project activities.
Project Support | Help plan and promote community events, workshops, and campaigns, ensuring smooth operation, active participation, and communication between the community and the project team. Support day-to-day project operations, ensuring activities align with community needs and stakeholder expectations.
Interns will live in shared accommodation with our Project Coordinator on Besar Island, Mersing Johor. Interns will also receive a monthly stipend of RM 500.
Requirements
Willingness to live and work in remote or rural areas with basic living conditions
Able to participate in physically active tasks (e.g., setting up events, gardening, waste handling)
Comfortable with outdoor work, possibly under hot, humid, or rainy conditions
Physically fit enough for:
Lifting and transporting materials
Walking/standing for extended periods
Participating in community clean-ups or fieldwork
Currently pursuing or recently graduated in fields such as:
Environmental Science
Marine Biology
Sustainability
Social Sciences
Communication / Media / Public Relations
Education
Community Development or a related field
Proficient in English and Malay (spoken and written)
Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills
Self-motivated, responsible, and able to work independently or in a small team
Open-minded and respectful of local cultures and customs
